METHODOLOGICAL INFORMATION

Description of methods used for collection/generation of data:

Data was collected by survey using Qualtrics and distributed by Prolific, social media and withing University campus.
Behavioural data was collected within the University campus and via Prolific website.

Methods for processing the data:

Data was processing via SPSS and use of syntax to remove unnecessary fields such as time of completion and completion date to create the variables necessary for analysis. 
Trial variables and raw question variables were needed in the data set to create main variables used in the main analysis such as the questionnaire total scores and the averaged behavioural data.
Scores were reverse coded for every other item for mnost varaibles but recoded to align for each of the coding stated for each variable.

Software- or Instrument-specific information needed to interpret the data, including software and hardware version numbers:

SPSS versions 25 – 30 were used to analyse the data in all datasets.

Environmental/experimental conditions:

Experimental conditions for chapter 3 consisted of the questionnaire variables. This included Nighttime fear (both parent reported and child reported), Anxiety (adult self-report, parent reported and child reported), 
Sleep behaviour (both parent reported and child reported), Behavioural inhibition (both parent reported, and child reported), Fear (both parent reported and child reported), Attentional control (both parent reported and child reported) 
and Intolerance of uncertainty (both parent reported and child reported).

Experimental conditions for the behavioural task consisted of positive, negative, uncertain and unknown cue types which were measured regarding threat expectancy for each cue type after cue sound had been played, Response time taken to 
make decision of expectancy and accuracy to the each of the cue types. In this data set there is also the self-report measures where overall scores for each questionnaire were included in the data. The variables are as follows: Nighttime fear, 
Anxiety, Sleep behaviour, Behavioural inhibition, Fear, Attentional control and Intolerance of uncertainty.

Describe any quality-assurance procedures performed on the data:

For survey data, review of qualitative output to ensure quality check of completion of survey and ensuring that completed survey data sets were used in the analysis. For the behavioural data, 60% overall accuracy to the positive and negative 
cue types were used to ensure datafiles which either understood the task or did not deliberately sabotage the data were included.
